Free Bicycle Skills Class Series

Throughout the year, CDOT hosts free bike skills classes taught by a certified instructor. Covered topics vary, but each hands-on class ends with a short group ride to practice skills.

Review the classes offered and sign up for the ones of your choosing.

  • How to Bike More: Learn practical tips and tools to make biking part of your everyday routine, followed by an optional group ride to Plaza Midwood.
    • April 9, 6 p.m., Sugar Creek Library (4045 N. Tryon St., Suite A)
  • Shopping by Bike: Learn how to safely carry groceries and everyday items by bike, with hands-on practice loading and riding.
    • April 18, 1 p.m., Link Apartments Cykel
  • CyclingSavvy Truths and Techniques Webinar: A virtual session covering the core principles and techniques for safer, more confident riding.
    • April 27, 4-7 p.m., Zoom
  • E-bike Class: Learn about different types of e-bikes, how they work and how to choose the right one for you. 
    • May 5, 1 p.m., BikeSource 
  • Bikes on a Train Ride: Join a group ride celebrating Bike to Work Week with a transit trip where your bike is your ticket.
    • May 12, 8 p.m., Common Market Plaza Midwood
  • Route Planning Class: Learn how to use tools to help plan safer, more comfortable routes for biking around the city.
    • May 13, 6 p.m., Trips for Kids Charlotte
  • Train Your Bike: ​A fun, beginner-friendly class for younger riders to build basic bike handling skills.
    • May 30, 2 p.m., location TBD
  • Stay tuned for more summer classes!
 
Each two-hour class ends with a short group bike ride to practice what was learned. Make sure to bring your helmet and bicycle to each session. Snacks, drinks and giveaways are provided to all participants, along with the chance to win special prizes. Limited spots are available, register now!
