2026 Placemaking Grant Application

Please read the City of Charlotte’s Placemaking Grant Application Guide before completing this application. Please complete this application in full and provide the required attachments by Friday, May 1, 2026, at 5 p.m. EST. Applicants will be notified no later than June 15, 2026. Please provide the following attachments to your application. To learn more about each item and the required content, please see pages 15--23 in the City of Charlotte’s 2026 Placemaking Grant Application Guide.

Required:

  • Letter of support from the neighborhood association or equivalent community organization where your grant project is located.
  • Three site photos.
  • A satellite photo (Google Maps, etc.) outlining the property boundaries of where your project is proposed.
  • Images of similar projects or preliminary sketches of your idea.
  • Project budget with itemized costs. See page 18-19 and example spreadsheet for more information.
  • Professional quotes or screenshots from online stores confirming costs for items over $1,000. For more information, see page 18 in the Grant Application Guide.

Additional Items (If applicable):

  • Maintenance and Programming Commitment (See page 20 in Placemaking Grant Application Guide).
  • Letters documenting in-kind or cash donations. For projects with a budget over $25,000 and looking for partial funding, the applicant must provide a plan to acquire the remaining funds and specify what the Placemaking Grant will cover for the project.
  • Letters of support from private property owners.
  • Letters of support from the county or state for publicly owned property. (See pages 16-17 in Placemaking Grant Application Guide.)

Please provide an estimated budget that categorizes the general expenditures of your project like material costs, contractor fees, artists fees, and other costs. Please note that grant funds cannot be used for personal salary. For assistance, see page 18 in the Grant Application Guide and the example spreadsheet.

If your application is chosen, the City of Charlotte staff looks forward to assisting you in completing your Placemaking Grant project. Please note that receiving grant funding does not constitute city approval of your project – staff will assist grantees in obtaining all required permits and permissions when the time comes. It is important that as the applicant you and your team are engaged in the process outlined in the Placemaking Grant Application Guide to ensure a successful project. Please note in signing this application you commit to the grant requirements.
